Treat Email Like Correspondence

Thinking differently about email will help your practice.

Email as Correspondence

Florida Law Practice Management

A recent article from Rossipsa.com makes the stunning revelation that email is correspondence.  Imagine that!  Seriously, we all know that email is a form of correspondence but yet we treat email differently than correspondence as though they were different things.  For example, rarely does a law firm or lawyer organize both email and all other letters from a file in the same directory or folder named correspondence.  Rather, letters and faxes are placed in correspondence and emails meanwhile are stored in an email folder apart from the correspondence.  By keeping all of these communications separate, there is no way to see the whole picture when one views the correspondence folder.  The evolution to a paper LESS office is going to require that we as lawyers change our way of thinking and one simple way to do that is to get all the correspondence together in one folder like it already should be.  Email management will require a system or plan.  There are programs and document management systems that do that for you, and using Adobe to convert and email to a PDF is another manual method as well,  To view the entire article on this topic, click here.
