You can use the Pomodoro Technique to focus on one task at a time, and adhere to the principles of effective calendaring, checklists, and touching tasks only once. Those that work in the insurance claims process regularly are familiar with the term “independent adjuster.” It is one that many of us know and understand, and some readers of this blog may even be independent adjusters. To those outside the insurance industry, a review of the term “independent adjuster” can give a misconception as defined by Florida law. Why is it a misconception you may ask? Tobacco Litigation: Big Tobacco still tries to deny reality with the “not me” defense
Do you remember a time way back when the link between smoking and cancer wasn’t clearly established? Anyone who was around at the time is at least 60 years old at this point.

Back in 1964, the Surgeon General released a landmark study that linked tobacco with potentially fatal health risks, such as heart disease and lung cancer. Small-scale studies beginning in the late 1920s suggested a possible connection, and major research efforts were underway by the 1950s,as explained by the American Cancer Society. But the Surgeon General report marked the first time the federal government took a stand on the issue.

According to Radicati Group, the volume for both sent and received email messages on a daily basis isestimated to be over 205 billion in 2015. The pace isn’t slowing down, either; the projected amount for the year 2019 is over 246 billion messages daily.

I recently read Paul Campos’s article The Collapsing Economics of Solo Legal Practice. He states that the average compensation for solo practitioners has declined sharply over the last 25 years. He also suggests that the median solo practitioner is earning less than $35,000 per year (and this statistic does not include new attorneys).

Law Practice Tips; Avoiding Burnout and Anxiety
Soon after graduating from New York University School of Law and joining the corporate practice of a white-shoe Manhattan law firm, Will Meyerhofer gained 45 pounds, was sleep-deprived and was frequently sick. “I was a nervous wreck. I was shattered,” says Meyerhofer, who’d also graduated from Harvard. “Even though I got to the very top, I was treated like an idiot and I felt I didn’t belong in the field. I was a mess. At the end of the day, I really only looked forward to seeing my dog.”

Not surprisingly, this experience triggered major anxiety for Meyerhofer, who often found himself “curled up in a ball, crying, losing it.” Even after he left the profession, he had panic dreams about being back at the firm.

If Florida wants to live up to its potential as the third largest state in the U.S., it will take better technology for its courts, better pay for its judges and court staff, and better access to courts for its residents.

Law Practice Tips: Creativity will make you better
Law is rarely considered a creative profession. Most of us think of creatives as being poets and artists, not rule-following lawyers. But creativity simply means you have the ability to think of new ideas, and that is something a good lawyer does every day. So, here’s how I use it in my legal practice. I’m going to show you how to replace trial binders with digital trial binders that hold more information and organize it better.
