Florida Legal News: Florida Courts Need Equal and Increased Funding
If Florida wants to live up to its potential as the third largest state in the U.S., it will take better technology for its courts, better pay for its judges and court staff, and better access to courts for its residents.

Mixing humor, statistics, and a relentless argument, Supreme Court Chief Justice Jorge Labarga used his State of the Judiciary Address at the Bar Annual Convention Judicial Luncheon to make the case for better funding for the courts.

Florida Insurance Law: Storm surge model updated for US, now what are we going to do about it?
Catastrophe risk modeling firm AIR Worldwide has updated its hurricane model for the U.S. to help insurers and reinsurers better understand and quantify the risk from hurricanes.

The update features a hydrodynamic storm surge module that integrates storm parameters with elevation data to simulate location-specific storm surge inundation depth and extent.Storm surge results from a combination of variables, including storm size, strength, speed, and path, as well as tidal heights and coastal geography.

Law Practice Tips: Creativity will make you better
Law is rarely considered a creative profession. Most of us think of creatives as being poets and artists, not rule-following lawyers. But creativity simply means you have the ability to think of new ideas, and that is something a good lawyer does every day. Whether you are interpreting a case in a novel way, trying to grow the pie in a negotiation, or reframing a bad fact, you need to hone your creativity. The good news is even if you do not consider yourself creative, there are ways you can cultivate creativity.

Legal Tech Tips: Digital Trial Binders
A few months ago, one of my favorite programs went completely free. I've been using OneNote since about 2003 when it came out. It has completely replaced my note-taking system. I have not taken a note on a yellow legal pad in years. I've talked to a lot of people, and not very many really understand OneNote or have ever heard of it. So, here's how I use it in my legal practice. I'm going to show you how to replace trial binders with digital trial binders that hold more information and organize it better.
